The Love Song of Miller Swift
Miller always was one to fall in
with a travelling girl.
Moron.
When you come to Victoria
for your ultimate visit,
I shall be forced to miss it.
No, I couldn't. I'll be there,
do all my usual things,
sniff my teacup, pull my
nose, meet your eye
in a desperate, flighty way
staring deeply only upon some
shared understanding of something
cool or What It's Like.
I would rather stare 'til our
eyes were
Jupiter and Saturn
tear me apart.
Is there a middle road,
one between expansion
and denial?
come
we'll make love
at ground level.
come
naked sweat as you claw my hair
we'll bury ourselves.
We'll buy a house, one with a long
central corridor that's cool all summer; and
the crazy blue sky
over the backyard
will look completely normal.
may I so seduce you? May I
be so seduced, so dissolute
as to hammer out
with my cartoonish
heart, distract from your
trip, so that in your
room-for-the-nite, you might
roll and clutch yourself, bash
your purpose against it, breaking
bits off?
